Game Center not supported on iPhone 3G and second Gen iPod Touch

August 5th, 2010 by arun No comments »

The social gaming feature namely the Game Center App will not run on iPhone 3GS and second Gen iPod Touch confirmed Apple. Earlier the buzz was set by the company by announcing the new social gaming feature which would run on any iOS 4 device. All existing iPhone 3G, 3GS and second Gen iPod Touch upgraded to the new OS to go gaming as soon as Game Center Beta version hits the market.

The possible reason that Apple has dumped the older versions of the device could be due to various negative reports on the iOS upgrade. Various problems have been reported by iPhone 3G and iPod touch users about problems in upgrade to iOS 4. So you have got another reason to buy the new Apple iPhone 4 if only you haven’t got one. The Game Center Beta is being considered as the next big thing to kill the portable gaming consoles by the entire gaming industry.

Report says iPhone 3GS drops more calls than iPhone 4

August 5th, 2010 by Saptarshi Roy Chaudhury No comments »

May be this would be an appropriate message which Apple could ever give to all the people who point finger at the iPhone 4 Antennagate issue. In a recent research conducted by Changewave Research iPhone 3GS was reported to have more dropped calls than iPhone 4. Even though surprising, the researchers claims with affirmation that they are quite sure about their findings.

5.2% of iPhone 4 owners reported dropped calls during the month of July, while 6.3% of owners of the iPhone 3GS. However the report takes perceptions of iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 users rather than itself checking it itself. Also changewave said that a negative publicity has made many iPhone 4 users unhappy about the new iPhone.  If only the research findings are right we must say this is a cool news for Apple as the lot of  negative news have crept in to the blogosphere and people are still voting for the iPhone despite the negativity around.

iPhone 4 jailbreak enables FaceTime video calling over 3G

August 3rd, 2010 by arun 3 comments »

The Jail break app was an aHa moment to me and I am sure many iPhone 4 handsets are ready for some further experimentation. One of the most appealing feature in the new iPhone is the FaceTime feature which typically runs on Wi-Fi. But the FaceTime application can now on 3G connection too. This is possible by virtue of Cydia app called My3G a unique application which is built to make Wi-Fi apps run on 3G. So if you Jailbreak your iPhone 4 and install your app then you need not wander around for those feeble Wi-Fi signals. However the video quality again depends upon strength of 3G connection and the video quality sometimes may not be as much you expect it to be.

Check the video below to see the app in action.
