Apple introduced iOS 5 in the first day of its Worldwide Developers Conference, 2011. In the words of Apple “With iOS 5, we’ve added over 200 new features — taking a mobile operating system that was already years ahead of anything else and moving it even further ahead.” iPhone users would be interested in knowing what the latest iOS 5 would bring to their device. So, here’s a detailed break-up of iOS 5 features-

Notification Centre- Apple was lagging behind Android in the notifications part. But with iOS 5, it has more than made up for it. The new Notification Center will allow you to keep track of all your notifications in one convenient location. You just have to swipe down from the top of any screen to enter the Notification Center where you can choose which notifications you want to see. The notifications will appear briefly at the top of your screen without interrupting what you are doing. You can also respond to notifications from the Lock screen with a swipe.

iMessage- iOS 5 brings a new messaging service to your device. You can send unlimited text messages via Wi-Fi or 3G from your iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch to your friends or family owning similar devices. You can also send photos, videos and contacts using the messaging service and much like popular chat services will also know when someone is typing.

Newsstand- This one for magazine and newspaper subscribers wherein they can organize their subscriptions. There is a spate folder from where you can access your favorite publications easily. There is also a new place on the App Store for newspaper and magazine subscriptions. New purchases of magazines or newspapers go directly to your folder and the Newsstand automatically updates the new issues arrived.

Reminders- You can now pull out your iOS device and set reminders complete with date and location so that you don’t miss out something very important. The location based reminder will alert you as soon as you enter the area.

Twitter- Twitter is awesomely integrated in iOS 5 and allows you tweet easily and effortlessly from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Sign in once and tweet directly from Safari, Photos, Camera, YouTube, or Maps. You can even add location to your tweets.

Camera & Photos- iOS 5 also brings some new and updated camera features to your device and lets you brilliantly capture the finest moments of life. You can open the Camera application from the Lock screen. You can also use grid lines, pinch-to-zoom gestures, and single-tap focus to create a picture on the go. Your photos can also automatically get downloaded to all your other devices if you have Photo Stream enabled in iCloud. Moreover, you can crop, rotate, enhance, and remove red-eye well-within the Photos app and even organize your photos in albums.

Safari- iOS 5 brings highly improved web-browsing features to your iPhone and iPad. Safari Reader allows you to read uninterruptedly by displaying web articles without any ads. There is a Reading List where you can save interesting articles to read in detail later. You can also browse multiple web pages on your iPad and switch between them with Tabbed browsing.

PC Free- You no longer require a computer to activate and set up your device or to download software updates. You can now download software updates directly on your iPhone, iPad or iPod. You can edit photos or add new email folders without the need for a PC.

AirPlay Mirroring for iPad 2- iOS 5 brings video mirroring to your iPad 2. Now you can wirelessly stream whatever’s on your iPad 2 to your HDTV via Apple TV.
