Apple releases iOS 5.0.1 to iPhone application developers.

November 3rd, 2011 by Saptarshi Roy Chaudhury No comments »

iPhone application developers

Apple has released a new beta version of iOS 5 to iPad and iPhone app developers. The iOS 5.0.1 is intended to fix battery issues currently plaguing in some iPhone 4S. Further, the new beta is also expected to fix a number of other issues.

Apple launched iPhone 4S in first week of October. But, barely within a month of its release, some iPhone 4S owners complained of battery problems particularly rapid drainage.

The iOS 5.0.1 will add multitasking gestures on the iPad, fix bugs in the iCloud, improve features in Siri for Australian users and will also contain security improvements.

Australian users of iPhone 4S have been complaining on Siri- the voice recognition software-not working properly on their phones. The latest beta is expected to solve the issue. Similarly, iPad owners will welcome the arrival of multitasking gestures on their devices as it will make navigating on the device and switching between the apps fast and easy.

However, there have been a few reports of iPhone application developers facing trouble activating their devices with the latest beta.

Deutsche Telekom releases SDK for iPad and iPhone app developers.

November 1st, 2011 by himanshu No comments »

iPhone app development

Deutsche Telekom’s developer platform-Developer Garden- has releases a Software Development Kit (SDK) for iPad and iPhone app developers. The new SDK will make it easier for iPhone developers to integrate Deutsche Telekom services into apps for the iPhone and iPad.

The new Objective-C SDK, will make it simpler for iOS app developers to build iPhone and iPad applications on the Developer Garden APIs (Application Programming Interfaces). The SDK offers complete English-language documentation and a range of sample applications for the individual APIs. It simplifies application programming and enables routine iPhone app development tasks like authenticating and processing messages with the server. It also enables app developers to perform tasks like integrating the AutoScout24 market place, integrating text & MMS messaging functions, and initiating telephone conferences etc., with relative ease.

The newly released Objective-C SDK is compatible to iOS 5. The Xcode 4 development environment allows app developers to try out the sample applications using the emulator.

Apple has notified out to iPad and iPhone app developers that iTunes Match music libraries in iCloud will be wiped on October 27th. The communiqué advises iPhone developers to turn off iTunes Match on their devices during that period. iOS app developers are also advised to maintain a backup of all their iTunes content although chances of their content being lost is very slim.

iPhone 5

Apple will hold “Let’s talk iPhone” event today and true to its style it is keeping all its cards close to its chest. Majority opinion suggests that it will unveil its next generation iPhone or (as called) iPhone 5 in the event. For almost a year, the mobile industry has witnessed unprecedented rumors and speculations-right from the iPhone 5 release date to the features it will bring. Will Apple release two iPhones? Will the new iPhone 5 support Near Field Communications? These and many such questions have been debated and discussed ad nauseum. And, all or most of it will be answered today.

Apple is widely expected to release its next-generation iPhone (it may be iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, or both as speculated in some circles). The event may also discuss software and services such as iOS 5 and iCloud. There are also rumors that Facebook may launch its iPad application.

Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal reports the US carrier Sprint is betting heavily on the iPhone, and has got into a nearly $20 billion agreement with Apple.

So let’s wait for a few hours. And see what Apple offers this time…
