The latest declaration of Facebook has clarified the total number of iOS Facbook app users; and this is not 100 millions but 44 millions.
The figure may be disappointing for Facebook, which has been successful to attract a magic figure of 500 million users world wide; but they are successful to attract almost 44% of the iOS device users including the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch users. It’s worth a mention that Apple has sold around 59 millions of iPhones by June, 2010.
In their statement, Facebook has said, “There are currently 44 million monthly active users of the Facebook for iPhone app. We recently changed the definition of mobile active users to exclude those who have only liked or commented on stream stories. Instead we are counting “active” users as people who have taken explicit actions within an application.”
This has put a full stop to all the speculations in the iPhone developers community about the actual number of the users. Although the magic figure of 100 million is a myth as of now, it still indicates that the iPhone Facebook app is hugely popular in the App Store. The pace of growth of Facebook in last couple of years, and the popularity of the app in App Store clearly suggests that the iPhone app developers and other service providers can use it successfully for a more effective branding purpose.

Here we have another report which might encourage iPhone developers make their next application useful for social media users. FaceBook the worlds most famous social networking site has crossed 100 Million iPhone monthly users. This is phenomenal and very clearly agrees with the last Morgan Stanley Mobile report that more and more internet users will be accessing their favorite social networking sites from the comfort of a mobile device.

The other reason the app has got so many downloads is the fact that the application is quick to load and also free to download from the app store. The huge success of facebook for iPhone gives clear message to iPhone developers to start making social media mobile apps which help people aggregate, organize and filter content.

iPhone OS 4 and it’s SDKs were released for the paid iPhone developers on 8, April 2010. Since then iPhone application developers have been digging into SDKs; After spotting the iChat client services earlier with front facing camera libraries, now, Facebook integration has been spotted by Gunning for Safety (which, amazingly, seems to have two areas of interest: nail guns, and iPhone OS).
According to that blog, Apple is probably working on Facebook’s Event Calendar, Contacts to integrate with Calendar, Contacts app on iPhone, respectively. Currently, iPhone has easy setup options for you to setup your accounts on Gmail, MobileMe, Yahoo, etc. You can simply type in your details and you’re done. Facebook, might get listed in this as well.
There was a huge user request received by Joe Hewitt (iPhone Application Developer of Facebook) during development of Facebook 3.0 for iPhone. So, it might be possible that on the other hand Facebook team will work on existing Facebook App to get the proper end user integration.
