iPhone app developers

A latest report by Strategy Analytics titled ‘App Developer Attitudes and Behaviors’ reveals that mobile app developers still prefer Apple’s iOS despite Google Android’s surge in the market. While developer’s interest in iPhone is waning down, their interest for iPad has helped Apple manage its dominance among developer community.

The report further reveals that while Android is continuing its steady pace in attracting app developer interest, BlackBerry is struggling. Windows Phone is gaining momentum as more developer’s are showing interest towards developing applications for its devices.

According to Josh Martin, Director of Apps Research at Strategy Analytics, “The app market is already maturing. Developers are tired of a few making the lion’s share of revenue. Thus, we see strong interest in fresh, emerging platforms and new business models, such as virtual goods and in-app advertising over the next year. The platform that best delivers revenue from multiple streams stands the best chance of success in the next eighteen months. For this reason, Strategy Analytics predicts that Apple will introduce carrier billing in emerging markets next year, which will extend the lead it has built in mature regions.”

iOS 5 wishlist: What iOS needs to have to sway users from Android?

March 29th, 2011 by himanshu No comments »

In his article, Jared Newman of PCWorld has come up with a feature wish list for iPhone. He writes, “Nearly two years ago, I bought an iPhone 3GS, back when Android was an insignificant speck on the mobile scene. A lot’s changed since then, and the iPhone’s missing features have left me with a case of Android envy.”

Here’s a list of features which Jared thinks iOS must have to lure Android lovers-

  • More Voice Commands- iPhone has limited voice commands whereas Android offers more including access to third party apps through a voice command. A wide range of voice commands will make the iPhone more attractive to users.
  • Voice-guided GPS- The author feels that the iPhone without built-in, voice-guided GPS for too long.
  • Wireless OS updates and multimedia sync-A local wireless network for OS updates and iTunes sync is highly desirable.
  • Better Notifications- Apple’s notifications system is too intrusive and hence it can come up with a better notification bar that allows users to view notifications as per their preferences.
  • Better Multitasking- Multitasking needs to be better than the present way of double tapping.

Apple’s iOS is getting serious competition from Google’s Android and stakeholders in Apple are heavily banking on its next line of hardware to maintain its dominance in the market. We have to wait till WWDC for iPhone developers where Apple is expected to talk about the future of iOS.

iPhone OS is now iOS

June 7th, 2010 by Mohammad Abdurraafay No comments »

This is true that from here on iPhone OS will called as iOS and the latest iPhone OS 4 is now an iOS4. So, from here onwards we’ll call ourselves an iOS Developer.

Well, now one thing is pretty simple to understand that why did they changed the name of OS from iPhone OS to iOS, they wanted to use iPhone OS in almost all of their products in coming days or they’re simply coming up with plenty of new segment devices, in which iPhone OS will be used. Those devices which will not be a phone but will be running on iPhone OS, why not just change the name of OS. If you’re an iPhone developer you know how weird it was to talk about iPad and saying that iPad runs on iPhone OS which was pretty much changed through its UI. So, now we call that the iPad runs on iOS 3.2.

I believe that all the device starting with ‘i’ will eventually have iOS loaded in it, in coming days. This is just what I think. If you’ve something in your mind, do let us know leaving a comment below.
