iPhone Developer Gets Banned for Fraudulent Activities

July 26th, 2010

Apple recently said in a press release early this month that it has taken steps to stop an offender who used other people’s iTunes accounts to buy the apps.

The incident has been considered as the violation of the Developer Program License Agreement, and fraudulent purchase. Thuat Nguyen, the iPhone developer and his apps have been removed from the App Store as a consequence.

Nguyen has shown an incredible increase in sales over the weekend of July 4. The iPhone application developer accounted for 42 out of the top 50 books in terms of revenue. At the same time, there were reports from the users that their accounts were being hacked into and used for purchasing apps on the App Store.

However, Apple has claimed that the iTunes servers were not at all compromised. “An extremely small percentage of users, about 400 of the 150 million iTunes users; that is less than 0.0003 percent of iTunes users were impacted,” an Apple representative was quoted saying.

Apple has reassured its customers that neither Nguyen nor any other developer “can not receive any iTunes confidential customer data when an app is downloaded.”
AppleInsider commented after the incident that it has been noticed ‘legitimate iTunes accounts are under organized attacks from people in China’. Information is reportedly being sold to the users for a few dollars and might have been used until the credit card was turned off.

In a damage control move, Apple said it has already implemented a new level of security measure on the iTunes Store to help curb any such activity in near future. Now the users are being asked to enter the code on the back of the credit card more often, while purchasing from the iTunes Store.

Apple has also requested the users to contact their respective financial institution, if they notice any fishy or unauthorized iTunes charge in the credit card billing. The company has also recommended changing the iTunes password immediately.

iTunes Connect Mobile released for all iPhone Application Developers

June 11th, 2010

Finally Apple has released the much needed app for iPhone application developers today. The new iTunes Connect Mobile app for iPhone and iPod touch will help developers to know their product statistics on the App Store. With the AppStore growing to a size of over 250,000+ apps and thousands of downloads daily,  it is very much important for an iPhone application developer to keep track of his apps.

The iTunes Connect Mobile app allows iPhone developers a break-out of sales by day, week, month (5w) and 6 months (26w). Application developers can now easily see in which target markets their applications are doing well and where they aren’t.

iPhone developers may download this cool new application from the App Store right now. However the product may need some time to propagate around the app store before it appears to everyone, so one might need to wait for his turn.

iPad App Store goes International great news for iPhone Developers

May 26th, 2010

iPhone Developers must be excited reading this news, that the iPad App Store is International now. Earlier we posted that iPad App Store goes International, which was actually visible in some of European countries. But now, it’s Live for all the countries around the world including India & China with a separate ‘iPad’ tab in iTunes.

Now, this hints me that the iPad gonna be shipped international in a month or two. I’m guessing that, this will be announced at WWDC 2010 by Steve Jobs. iPad is a revolutionary device, we knew it, but more than that it’s a bigger playground for all the iPhone Developers out there.

Soon, the number of apps will increase for iPad and also we’re expecting iPhone OS 4 (this fall) which will get Multitasking to iPad. iPhone developers have already started looking into Multitasking on OS 4 for iPhone which will be out to end-users later this summer and will be again demonstrated at WWDC 2010 on 7th June. Now, imagine the same Multitasking on iPad, that would probably change the way the people use their iPad, though it’s update is due this fall; we need to wait to see that happening.

Wired Magazine App Arrives on the iPad, Finally!

May 26th, 2010

Wired Magazine App for iPad is available in App Store for $4.99. This App was demoed in March & brought us the new look of magazine on iPad. This is heavily loaded with interactive content, as well as slide show, video and music.

This app’s total size around 527MB, which shows that app stores enough of multimedia content but this isn’t good for downloading through 3G network instead you’d prefer downloading it through Wifi network.

Well, the app is available in the App Store but did you know that Conde Nast was actually in talk with Adobe during early this year to get their Wired Magazine app to various tablet platforms including iPad? Adobe has platform through which one can publish their magazine easily to various platforms. Since, Apple first announced that they’re not going to allow cross-compiled code developed through cross-compiler in the App Store, Conde Nast planned not to use Adobe’s cross-platform code and used Apple’s Objective-C, which is iPhone’s native language, to develop this app.
