Rumors on Apple’s next generation iPhone has again started gaining momentum with various reports claiming that the new iPhone or iPhone 5 will have a modified chip, a new body and a bigger screen. A post on Business Insider citing a research note from Topeka Capital Markets analyst Brian White reports that the next iPhone will have a 4 inch screen which would require a new case or design. It also says that the to-be-launched device will also have LTE capabilities much like the recently released new iPad.
Another report on 9to5Mac claims that the next-generation iPhone will not have the latest iPhone 4/4S design but is being tested on old design casings. The report also says that Apple is using a modified chip on the iPhone, a derivative of the A5X processor used in new iPad.
As usual, there are lots of speculations on the launch date of the new iPhone with reports claiming it to be in August or September. However, with Apple always keeping its cards close to its chest, and with its penchant to surprise people, nothing can be said with certainty, either about the device or its launch date.

As per a report by The Wall Street Journal, Sprint will join AT&T and Verizon to offer the iPhone 5 when it launches this year. Sprint will be the third carrier in U.S. to offer the iPhone. The report says that Apple will release its next generation iPhone in “mid-October”.
In another report, Reuters says that a lower priced 8GB version of the iPhone 4 will be launched this fall. There has been considerable speculation on Apple changing its strategy to target low-end mobile users with a low cost iPhone 4. The report further says that Apple is targeting end of the September launch for the iPhone 5 and completely refutes claims that the IPhone 5 will have significant changes in form-factor. The new iPhone 5 is reported to look identical to iPhone 4 but will have a bigger screen, 8 MP camera and better antenna.
An iPhone developer has also reported to found evidence that the iPhone 5 will be a dual mode device supporting both GSM and CDMA.
The iPhone 5 release has generated considerable speculation in the last few months. As the above two reports show, it is still very unclear when Apple will release its next generation iPhone. But it would be safe to say that the next two months might see an iPhone 5 release.

If you are surprised by the above headline then please read it again. It’s ‘hiPhone’- a fake of Apple’s next generation iPhone- and not the much anticipated iPhone 5. The ‘hiPhone 5’ is based on leaked designs of the real Apple iPhone and is extremely light in weight much like most fake mobile phones available in the market.
The Chinese market is well-known for the availability of pirated goods. A few days, many fake Apple stores were also found in the country.
The iPhone 5 release date is speculated to be in September or early October. Till then it’s hiPhone 5.

The iPhone 5 release has been a subject of intense speculations for the last two months. People were expecting that Apple will release its next generation iPhone 5 in the WWDC 2011. However, that didn’t happened and now the rumor mills suggest that the Cupertino based Company may release iPhone 5 in September. But, if a report in CNN Money is to be believed then Apple might unveil two iPhones, one iPhone 5 and another, an improved version over iPhone 4. The report cites Deutsche Bank’s Chris Whitmore telling his clients to expect both, an iPhone 5 and an iPhone 4S in the September.
“With Nokia and RIMM struggling,” Whitmore writes, “the time is right for Apple to aggressively penetrate the mid range smart-phone market (i.e. $300-500 category) to dramatically expand its [total addressable market] and market share.”
Experts believe that the two iPhone releases will help Apple penetrate the pre-paid users and widen its consumer base across the globe.

France Telecom CEO Stephane Richard in an interview to All Things D said that Apple has agreed on using a smaller SIM card instead of an e-SIM in order to make the next-generation iPhone 5 even smaller and thinner. There were news reports signaling that the Cupertino based company is thinking of doing away with physical SIM cards in order to reduce the dimensions of its next iPhone.
“All of us told [Apple] it was a bad idea because the SIM card is a critical piece of the security and authentication process,” Richard said. “It would be very difficult for a telco or carrier to manage the customer relationship. I think that they understood this point. We had a very constructive exchange and dialogue with them,” he said.
According to Richard, as per the compromise, Apple’s new iPhone is expected to have a new size SIM card which will be smaller than the micro-SIM used in the iPhone 4.
There has been quite a buzz on iPhone 5 in the last few months. First, there was intense speculation on iPhone 5 release date and in the last few weeks there have been various reports on the features and form factor of the much-awaited next-generation iPhone.
