A recent report from Gartner said that Android OS has surpassed iPhone sales of mobile phones for the second quarter of 2010. Cross platform Android and iPhone developers would be more than just happy to know their favorite OS competing actively. This is amazing news for Android lovers even though not an alrming one for Apple. The report mentioned that about 10.6 million phones run on Android OS which represent 17.2% 2010 market share. iPhone stood at 8.74 million iOS phones with a 14.2% 2010 market share. Once again the top 2 Mobile OS share is dominated by Symbian with 41.2% of the market and RIM with 18.2% of the market.

Analyzing the possible reasons I feel that the shortage of iPhone 4 devices and also the series of rumors spread on blogs might have limited buying to a certain extent. Also another important reason is the iPhone 4 has not yet shipped to other countries yet. Also about 20 major handsets has shipping Android OS this season which is a major cutting edge for Android in Quarter 2 2010. All I can say is better days for iPhone are coming in Q3 and Q4 when the iPhone 4 spreads like an epidemic and more and more fantastic iOS 4 compatible apps hits the market.
