Yahoo Mail for iPad now available

August 19th, 2010

iPad application developers and HTML5 enthusiasts would be more than happy to know that the web giant Yahoo has given a solid example of  how effectively HTML 5 can be used for developing iPad applications.  This can be regarded as a powerful vote for HTML5 and a serious vote against flash as Steve Jobs has always said.

Among the new features are local caching for offline access, improvements to searching and organization, enhanced attachment handling, and a dual pane view similar to that employed by the native iPad email application. Earlier in May Gmail launched a similar interface to fit in to the iPad. And after trying both of then I must say Yahoo mail on the iPad is better both user experience wise and feature wise.

iPhone Application Developers Happy with the new iAds

August 16th, 2010

A recent opinion take by Los Angeles Times on iAds has revealed that many iPhone and iPad developers are very happy with the iAds Advertising network. iPhone Developers are more than just happy with the new iAds as the program offers premium Ad placement which allows increased application revenue.

Not only developers but even Advertisers showed their happiness with the new iAds policy. Advertisers are pleased with iAd’s performance  noting the level of engagement for users and their willingness to revisit ads multiple times. This is a good news for both iPhone and iPad application developers as even though Apple left out third party developers out of the race its continued commitment to give something to iDevice developers is paying them off.

Tawkon app shows increased Radiation levels during Death Grip

August 10th, 2010

Everyone right now might be dissing the iPhone and all those big SmartPhone companies because of the loss in reception due to the death grip. But not many except the experts at Tawkon have looked at the issue from the radiation point of view. Tawkon developers of world’s first Cellphone radiation measurement application has noted that the cellphone radiations have increased in large way when the SmartPhone was held a bit tightly.

Tawkon released a video in their blog demonstrating how radiation levels push hard when the grip of death comes in to play. The video shows how all the major smartphones increase their radiation levels when the phone is subjected to pressure.

iPhone 4 jailbreak enables FaceTime video calling over 3G

August 3rd, 2010

The Jail break app was an aHa moment to me and I am sure many iPhone 4 handsets are ready for some further experimentation. One of the most appealing feature in the new iPhone is the FaceTime feature which typically runs on Wi-Fi. But the FaceTime application can now on 3G connection too. This is possible by virtue of Cydia app called My3G a unique application which is built to make Wi-Fi apps run on 3G. So if you Jailbreak your iPhone 4 and install your app then you need not wander around for those feeble Wi-Fi signals. However the video quality again depends upon strength of 3G connection and the video quality sometimes may not be as much you expect it to be.

Check the video below to see the app in action.

iAds now pitched for all iPhone Developers

July 30th, 2010

Finally Apple has pitched the iAds advertising network for iPhone developers. Although the website revealed less about the new Ad network which would help iPhone developers monetize their applications, we have got a bunch of important news to keep you interested even though the company suggested developers to contact the company in order to get further details.

Few of the features of the new iAds is that developers can exclude Ads from competitor and also low quality and irrelevant Ads. Apple has also mentioned that the Ads will be targeting the right audience and will be country specific. iPhone developers will be charged 25 cents per click and brand advertisers will be charged $2.00 per-click.

A rough estimation on the consequence of this move from the company to pitch the program to iPhone developers is that it could well bring about $825 million business according to a research note published by Bernstein Research analyst Toni Sacconaghi.  This is an alarming figure and also the starting steps from Apple to dominate the mobile Advertising world.
