July 30th, 2010 by arun No comments »

Finally Apple has pitched the iAds advertising network for iPhone developers. Although the website revealed less about the new Ad network which would help iPhone developers monetize their applications, we have got a bunch of important news to keep you interested even though the company suggested developers to contact the company in order to get further details.

Few of the features of the new iAds is that developers can exclude Ads from competitor and also low quality and irrelevant Ads. Apple has also mentioned that the Ads will be targeting the right audience and will be country specific. iPhone developers will be charged 25 cents per click and brand advertisers will be charged $2.00 per-click.

A rough estimation on the consequence of this move from the company to pitch the program to iPhone developers is that it could well bring about $825 million business according to a research note published by Bernstein Research analyst Toni Sacconaghi.  This is an alarming figure and also the starting steps from Apple to dominate the mobile Advertising world.

Cellular radiation app developer Tawkon starts tell Apple petition

July 27th, 2010 by Saptarshi Roy Chaudhury No comments »

Few weeks ago we covered a very important news on Tawkon the world’s only application which notifies a user about cellular radiation. The news mentioned Apple’s invitation to Tawkon developers to Cupertino which was made shortly after the developers created a similar application for Blackberry. But Apple has once again shunned the iPhone application for a reason not revealed yet.

tawkon-iphone-developer

Apple’s behavior towards the cellular radiation application has irked resentment in many iPhone users who seriously wish to know the radiation levels they are subjected to when they use the phone. I always believe people deserve the right not to have radiation statistics hidden from them. Not only did the iPhone developer create an application which shares SAR levels but also an app which shows real-time gauge to see when they’re exposed to higher and lower levels of radiation. The Tawkon application minimizes radiation exposure of a cellphone at any given time.

I feel Apple’s response to the developers plea for appstore approval is a very damaging in users interest and eventually will cause people doubting Apple’s transparency letting know its radiation levels.

If you want to help Tawkon out in making it get download able to Apple users then you can sign this email and send it to Apple within a single click.

iPhone Developer Gets Banned for Fraudulent Activities

July 26th, 2010 by Saptarshi Roy Chaudhury No comments »

Apple recently said in a press release early this month that it has taken steps to stop an offender who used other people’s iTunes accounts to buy the apps.

The incident has been considered as the violation of the Developer Program License Agreement, and fraudulent purchase. Thuat Nguyen, the iPhone developer and his apps have been removed from the App Store as a consequence.

Nguyen has shown an incredible increase in sales over the weekend of July 4. The iPhone application developer accounted for 42 out of the top 50 books in terms of revenue. At the same time, there were reports from the users that their accounts were being hacked into and used for purchasing apps on the App Store.

However, Apple has claimed that the iTunes servers were not at all compromised. “An extremely small percentage of users, about 400 of the 150 million iTunes users; that is less than 0.0003 percent of iTunes users were impacted,” an Apple representative was quoted saying.

Apple has reassured its customers that neither Nguyen nor any other developer “can not receive any iTunes confidential customer data when an app is downloaded.”
AppleInsider commented after the incident that it has been noticed ‘legitimate iTunes accounts are under organized attacks from people in China’. Information is reportedly being sold to the users for a few dollars and might have been used until the credit card was turned off.

In a damage control move, Apple said it has already implemented a new level of security measure on the iTunes Store to help curb any such activity in near future. Now the users are being asked to enter the code on the back of the credit card more often, while purchasing from the iTunes Store.

Apple has also requested the users to contact their respective financial institution, if they notice any fishy or unauthorized iTunes charge in the credit card billing. The company has also recommended changing the iTunes password immediately.

Microsoft allures iPhone and iPad game Developers to make apps for WP7

June 24th, 2010 by Saptarshi Roy Chaudhury 2 comments »

Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 seriously needs some applications and games and instead of hiring a team of skilled developers they prefer alluring existing iPhone and iPad game developers.  Well the high note is existing iPhone app developers now have got an extra option to earn money.

windows-phone-7iPhone and Android games were the major target markets for developers to cash in on. But with the intervention of Microsoft with good freebies, there might be few game developers who would fall for the other side of the Window. The ray of hope for Microsoft and also an attractive application for all game developers is the XBOX 360 Live integration in the WP7. This particular integration may make iPhone game developers  jump to latch on the opportunity before any one else gets into the business.

The strategy by Microsoft could be transfer the existing XBOX fan base to mobile gaming too and also make its first serious appearance as a “Mobile Gaming Brand”. But questions still exist how the company will go on from here on in roping in iPhone game developers and in keeping them interested and rich.

Developers double up the iPad app store within a month

June 22nd, 2010 by Saptarshi Roy Chaudhury 2 comments »

iPad’s dominance on the internet tablet field continues with more than 3 million iPads sold and 11,000 iPad apps ready for download within 80 days. That’s a startling number that beats all other mobile computing tablets like a charm.  Credit goes to adroit iPad developers who in a short time tweaked the iPhone applications and made it iPad compatible apps.

ipad-app-store-developerWith most of the sales in US and iPad shipping yet to flourish worldwide we should expect the iDevice to spread exponentially. When compared to Apple’s earlier report the number of iPad applications in the app store doubled. This clearly shows developers interest in firming their ground early in the iPad app store.

Even though Apple has sent out invitations to developers to make iOS 4 compatible applications the craze is still on for iPad application and game development as evident from the reports. The iPad is supposed to be available in nine more countries in July which would mean the figures would go for a double next time we see this report around.

Apple Store App Increases Revenue Potential for iPhone Developers

June 16th, 2010 by Saptarshi Roy Chaudhury No comments »

The Apple Store App has finally arrived and iPhone developers and users are more than just excited about it. Few are still wondering what stopped the company from creating such a cool application all these years. The Apple Store App gives a distinct advantage to iPhone users who download apps almost daily and also to iPhone application developers who are looking forward to increase their exposure in the application development world.

The Application can be downloaded by iOS version 3 and above only. The Apple Store app gives iPhone developers two great advantages. One is that the number of app downloads increases which would mean more money to developers. Also the application developer details will be displayed within the app which would mean further exposure and recognition for developers work. The Store App application allows you to read reviews, locate local brick and mortar Stores, check out new and featured products, check the iPhone developer details and also buy or pre-order the other iPhone or iPad needs.

The servers at Apple are experiencing heavy downtime due to iPhone 4 pre-orders and also due its Store app release. Hence all users will have to wait for his or her turn for the download.

Reminder: The Apple Store App is available for US only users currently.
